Objectives: The Materials specialty of ESIR, open to the international market and industry, trains general engineers, capable of adapting to future technological developments and aware of innovation.
The training offered is at the interface between chemistry, physics and mechanics of materials and also includes a "Human and Social Sciences" component. Scientific and technical skills include the synthesis and shaping of materials as well as knowledge and characterization (diffraction, various spectroscopies, mechanical tests, etc.) of a wide range of their physicochemical properties. The main classes of materials are discussed: metals and alloys, polymers, glasses, ceramics, nanomaterials, biomaterials, construction materials, etc. Optical, magnetic, electrical, electronic and mechanical properties are more particularly studied.
