Course Details

Objectives: This option offers knowledge and know-how useful for the design of an aircraft.

Aeronautics is a sector that calls upon a wide variety of disciplines. As part of the option, students define their own path among the following disciplines: aerodynamics, acoustics, automation, materials, and structural mechanics.
The training is designed around projects. The engineering student is required to implement academic knowledge integrating both transversal and specific aspects. Starting from the simplified design of a business aircraft (joint project), the various specific projects focus on an element (turbojet, wing, fuselage, etc.) or on a problem (acoustics, materials, controls, etc.) in order to 'evolve, for example, towards an aircraft that consumes less, pollutes less, or is less noisy.

This training is an option in the 3rd year of the engineering curriculum of the Ecole Centrale de Lyon, after 3 semesters of common core and 1 semester of elective courses (1st and 2nd year of the engineering curriculum). It can also be offered as part of a year of exchange with an international partner institution.

Intended for: Students who complete the first 2 years at the Central School of Lyon
Student M1 for French-speaking foreigners
as part of a year of exchange

Degree Level (EU) : 7 - (EQC level or equivalent)

Admission requirements: Several access routes are proposed:
- Admission of students from CPGE : common Central-Supelec competitive entrance examination
- Admission of BSc students in 1st year: competitive entrance examination on title: CASTING
- Admission of students of foreign universities partners in 3rd year : admission on file, in the context of an exchange agreement.

Acquired skills during the training : Formulate an engineering problem in the aeronautics sector.
Model a complex system.
Analyze a multidisciplinary problem.
Mobilize knowledge and know-how for the detailed design of a system.

Targeted careers : Aeronautics and space, mechanical engineering, equipment manufacturers.
Safran, Dassault, Airbus, Thales, CNES, etc.

Duration and terms: 3 years (for pupils and students integrating ECL in 1st year) 1 year (for international students in exchange)

Notes: Partners (details): (Safran Aircraft Engines, Safran Helicopter Engines, Safran Nacelles,…), Dassault Aviation, Airbus Group (Airbus, Airbus Helicopters), ONERA, CNES Toulouse, Hexcel composites…
